The Department of Physics has numerous committees to support its educational and research missions. Committees include representation from all constituencies within the department, including students, postdoctoral scholars, staff, and faculty. The Department Chair appoints committee members on an annual basis and provides charges to each committee prior to the start of the academic year. Departmental committees are charged with ensuring that equity, diversity, and inclusion are fundamental considerations in all decision-making processes and committee activities. This includes actively seeking and representing diverse perspectives when formulating recommendations, assessing the impact of proposed policies and initiatives on underrepresented groups, as well as implementing practices such as creating inclusive spaces for open dialogue within committee meetings.
